Heard on Bob and Tom this morning that the legislation pasted last night that yet again has delayed the switch from analog tv signels to digital. The conversion is now set to take place on June 12, 2009…we will see.

good! seems to me it’s just one more way for the big guys to get money. take away the ability to get free tv easily and for the poorest of those in this country, that may be their only form of entertainment. for me, I could afford cable but I don’t want to watch that much tv, and I don’t have cable in my area without paying big bucks to dig a trench and have it laid.
the longer they put this off the better for those that can’t afford to make a switch, even with the coupon, you have to pay some to get even a decent converter box, which even now aren’t widely available.

I live close to a larger city so I have never had trouble getting cable. We currently just have the basic cable thats more than enough channels for anyone. I have already switched my grandparents because where they live they don’t have cable. So their option is either an antenna or a satellite and they don’t watch enough TV to justify a satellite.
Converting them to the digital convert box wasn’t a big deal or big expense and the picture they now get is 20x better than what they were getting through their antenna. In fact I think the picture they have is better than my regular cable. With the coupon the government is giving out at https://www.dtv2009.gov/ I picked up a magnavox convert box at Walmart and I think the total on it was about $15 out of my pocket. In my opinion that is a small price to pay for clear crisp free tv.
